Professional Profile: Michael Homotsang Seloane
Mike Seloane served as a Public Service Commissioner in Gauteng Province. Before joining the Public Service Commission, he worked at the National Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs from June 2009 to October 2011, fulfilling several roles such as Portfolio Head for Provincial and Municipal Governance Support and Acting Head for the National Disaster Management Centre.
His legislative career began in 1994 when he became a founding member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) for the African National Congress (ANC). After departing the Legislature in December 1995, he took on the role of Business Development Manager at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). He returned to the GPL in 1999 and remained until 2009, serving once more as a Member of Provincial Legislature (MPL). During his tenure as MPL, he participated in the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) for a decade, five years as its Chair, and contributed to various other committees. Mike also spent seven years as Treasurer of the Association of Public Accounts Committees (APAC) and chaired the first meeting of the Southern African Development Community Organisation of Public Accounts Committees (SADCOPAC) in 2003.
With more than thirty years of experience as a political activist, Mike has been involved in youth and student movements, trade unions, civic organizations, the UDF, NGOs, and broader educational initiatives. He has served on the Local Government SETA Board and is presently a member of the Transport Authority for Gauteng Board. In addition, he currently acts as Trustee and Chairperson for the Thathazakho Community Development Trust based in Centurion.
Academically, Mike holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science and Mathematical Statistics from the University of Limpopo, along with Post Graduate Diplomas in Economic Principles and Financial Economics from the University of London.
